Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say initial examinations show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the attack made him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
